Terms of Use
Last updated: September 2026
1. About these terms
These terms apply to your use of TrailVu at trailvu.com. TrailVu is run by Ben Brading from the United Kingdom and is not a registered company. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean TrailVu.
By using the website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. How we handle personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
2. Safety: for planning, not navigation
TrailVu's maps, elevation profiles, distances and course data are for general information and race planning only. Do not use them for navigation during a race, training run or any trip in the mountains or outdoors.
Trail and ultra running carries real risks, including injury, exposure and getting lost. You are responsible for your own safety. In particular:
- Always follow the official route, markings and instructions from the race organiser on the day.
- Carry proper navigation tools and any mandatory kit the race requires.
- Check weather, conditions and access before you go.
- Get medical advice before starting a demanding training programme or event.
3. Accuracy of information
We work hard to make our course information accurate, but we cannot guarantee it is complete, correct or up to date. Race organisers can change routes, distances, cut-offs and checkpoints at any time, sometimes at short notice.
Figures such as distance and elevation gain are estimates. They depend on the data source and method used, so they may differ from official figures or your own GPS device.
If you spot a mistake, please tell us at contact@trailvu.com and we will look into it.
4. Race names and no affiliation
TrailVu is an independent website. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any race, race organiser or governing body featured on the site, unless we clearly say so.
Race names, event names and logos belong to their owners. We use race names only to identify the courses we describe. For official information, entry details and rules, always go to the organiser's own website.
5. Our content and how you can use it
The TrailVu name, website design, mapping tool, text, analysis, graphics and visualisations are owned by us or used with permission. They are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The public data our maps are built on stays subject to its own licences (see section 6).
You are welcome to view the site and share links to our pages. For personal, non-commercial race planning, you may print or save individual pages.
Without our written permission, you must not:
- copy, republish or sell our content, maps or data
- scrape, crawl or bulk-download the site, including to train AI models or build datasets
- remove any copyright or attribution notices
- use the site in a way that damages it, overloads it or breaks the law
To ask about using our content, email contact@trailvu.com.
6. Map data and links
Our course maps are made with a mapping tool that we built and run ourselves. The underlying map and terrain data comes from publicly available sources. That data belongs to its providers and we use it under their licences. Where a licence requires it, we credit the source on the map.
The site may link to other websites, such as race organisers' pages. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content.
7. Availability
TrailVu is free to use. We may change, pause or remove any part of the site at any time, and we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors.
8. Our liability to you
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under UK law. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.
Subject to that, we are not responsible for:
- any loss or injury that results from relying on the site's information for navigation or safety decisions, contrary to section 2
- losses that were not reasonably foreseeable
- any business losses, such as lost profits or opportunities
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top shows when they last changed. By continuing to use the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.
10. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any disputes will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
